Hi everyone - I am working with ITV on a programme looking at the experiences of women in mother and baby homes across the UK. As part of the programme we are keen to explore the use of a drug known as DES or Stilboestrol, that was given to mothers to dry up their breast milk, often administered by injection or tablets.
I'd be really keen to speak to anyone who knows they were given DES for a background chat to help us better understand its use.
Please do get in touch if you'd be up for having a chat with me.
Kindest regards,
Lotti
This is such an important and heartbreaking topic—so many lives were impacted by the use of DES and the conditions in mother and baby homes. It’s a stark reminder of why informed consent and accessible healthcare are so vital. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way in terms of patient rights and medical access. Today, services like blood test at home offer more privacy and control, especially for people who might feel vulnerable in clinical settings. We need to keep pushing for transparency and compassion in all areas of healthcare.
Such an important topic—thank you for shedding light on the experiences surrounding DES and mother and baby homes. When it comes to caring for little ones today, I’ve found Cetaphil Baby Lotion to be incredibly gentle and effective, especially for sensitive skin.
