According to my original birth cert. (before an adoption cert, was issued obviously), I was born there, with my genetic mother being 17-yr's old and un-married. I'm not looking for any kind of re-union, but would like to find paperwork, names of grandparents etc. Apparently it is still a nursing home but not owned by the same people and I think, a completely different type of 'nursing home'. I have an Irish birth-name (O'Dare) so I guess it may have been a Catholic Church run home, but it may be a bad guess.
I'm not saying I wouldn't make some sort of contact with the poor woman, (via e-mail??) who can't have had an easy time of it in 1960/61 (I'm a January-born male) but I just don't have any pull or desire to meet new people and find the whole idea completely off-putting and even ludicrous. Whether this is because I'm autistic, or there was no 'maternal-bond' I don't know, but the humanitarian in me would of course want to help bring 'closure' to a painful incident for the mother, as long as they wanted contact of course and had been searching. However, maybe they're not that bothered either!
Thanks/Diolch
Thanks. It was SeeWAY not 'view' (my mistake). So, Seaway Nursing Home, Seaway Lane, Torquay. I have not found anything online really, apart for there is still a nursing home of that name still on Seaway Lane, but nursing homes seem very common around there so we can't guarantee that it is even the same building. The registration district was Newton Abbot and the Sub-District was Torquay. I also know the mother's address in 1961 which was 14 Taymar Avenue, Shiphay, Torquay. Her occupation was recorded as "hairdresser". That is all the information I have. I do know that my adopter mother's brother and sister-in-law knew the woman that ran the home but all my relatives are long dead now, so no chance of learning more that way.
Thanks again.
